Thor aaron6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() I love the idea of Thor being this guy who wakes up everyday and looks at his hammer and doesn’t know if he’s going to be able to pick it up today. With Thor that all comes down to the idea of worthiness, which is tied into his origins. That’s why Stan (Lee) and Jack (Kirby) did Thor in the first place, to do the story of a super-god. So it started with an idea of leaning into the fact that Thor is a god and that’s what makes him different. This guy who had a real beef with the gods and pointed out the shortcomings and failings of gods in the Marvel Universe. And the villain that kind of strung it all together was sort of a serial killer of gods. I sat down and thought “OK, what’s the biggest swing I could take right out of the gate? What’s something that sums up who this character is to me, what makes him different from the other Marvel heroes?” What I came up with was doing a sci-fi/fantasy/horror story that took place over the course of eons involving multiple versions of Thor. In the midst of that, for the first time during my stint at Marvel, I sparked to Thor and realized that seemed to be the character that spoke to me at that moment. Every single series at Marvel was up for grabs so it was a moment in time where you could kind of stake your claim to whatever you wanted to do. The whole saga of Gorr the God Butcher was the first Thor idea I ever came up with. ![]()
